A campaign to raise math rates in Midland ISD.
Since its inception 10 months ago, Jumpstart Midland parent leaders have met with the Superintendent, the MISD English and Math Departments, MISD Board Members Sara Burleson and Michael Booker and have engaged hundreds of parents. Most recently Jumpstart Midland launched its “Parent Voice Report” – the findings of their summer parent engagement efforts that led to math as a top issue for parents.
“Right now, only 39% of students in Midland ISD are performing on grade level in math*. In some schools, it’s single digits. Those aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet. Those are real children—our children—falling further and further behind in a subject that opens doors to so many futures. We live in a city and region built on oil and gas—an industry that runs on math and science.” - Ebony Coleman, Founder, Jumpstart Midland
Midland ISD Math data according to TXSchools.gov:
That’s why Jumpstart Midland has launched our campaign: “Math Ain’t Mathin’.” We’re calling on Midland ISD to make math achievement a top priority—with a clear, three-part plan:
Tell parents the truth about how their kids are really doing in math—no sugarcoating, no confusion.
Provide strong tutoring and intervention programs—during and after school—so every child who’s behind can catch up.
Build a lasting foundation within schools so that math success isn’t a one-year fix, but a long-term culture of achievement.
Because right now, the math ain’t mathin’—and it’s time Midland starts adding up again.
